Conclusion

Our goal from the beginning of the design process was to create a widely accessible and adaptable product that aids our participant in his daily life, increasing his independence.

As we got to know the participant personally and understood his disability (caused by an Intra Cerebral Hemorrhage) better. We narrowed down our participant problems and chose to tackle his problem at its core, which was his impaired left hand. To aid this problem we co-designed a glove to the liking of the participant, this glove is aimed at improving the mobility and dexterity of the patient’s left hand, while maintaining a level of simplicity which allows for open-source and DIY adaptability for the broader community. We ended up with a simple elastic band hand skeleton on top of a glove, with a Velcro attachment mechanism. Because we used common materials and simple construction, making it accessible and easy to modify, our product is suitable for sharing through one of the existing initiatives for sharing open-source assistive technologies, which would connect our concept to a broader community.
